Day Ones

Isn't it crazy how one picture can either inspire you or discourage you- possibly make you jealous?

Social media quite frankly controls most of our lives. And, we have control over who we follow and who we let influence us. Yet, most times social media is the first thing in our day that makes us doubt ourselves. If you're anything like me, most times you feel that you don't fit into society's standards of success. You might feel that you aren't making enough money to buy that fancy car. You don't have enough clothes in your closet to dress like her. You don't spend enough time on vacation to be "easy going." Or, maybe, you feel you aren't made to look like those influencers do.

This morning was probably my 100th time starting that Day 1 journey to physical health. And, I’ll be quite honest, I was nervous to walk through the doors of the gym today- not because I didn't know what I was doing, but because I wanted to look like I belonged there.

And like you may be, I genuinely thought about completely putting off my Day 1 until I "looked the part." That way, I could avoid the feeling of disappointment within myself.

But, my sister inspired me with her words after I asked her how she kept going. She said, "I fell in love with it again." So, despite the doubts within myself, I decided now was the time to build my courage. This journey was mine to start, to figure out, and to conquer.

Yet, I couldn't get this notion out of my head; I'd look like a fool to the consistent gym members. So much so, that I made sure my outfit didn't make me stand out. Nevertheless, I plugged in my headphones, drank my energy drink, and began my workout (taking rest quite frequently).

Eventually, I got into the groove of being back and realized that whatever I looked like didn't matter. My body felt renewed on my Day 1, and Day 2 would soon be up next.

Social media can be discouraging and misleading, but it can also be inspiring and honest. We shouldn't worry about what others have or look like in comparison to us, instead we should let that inspire us to be driven. Weed out the critics and cons in your life.

Fall in love with the journey, because everyone has a day one.
