Have you ever felt some days are so beautiful that they are just golden?
Many times, I feel that my day strikes gold during sunset. However, when I read one sentence from Sarah Young, author of Jesus Calling for Teens, my mindset changed. She said, “You even judge the weather.”
How many of you can say that you haven’t looked into a cloudy sky and just complained that it wasn’t lit up by a golden sun? Unfortunately, not many of us can raise a hand to declare that we haven’t passed judgment on the weather.
Judgment has become so normal for us that we don’t even realize what or who we judge. Yet, it isn't very hard to take apart the word judgment. The New Oxford American Dictionary defines judgment as, “the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions.” That being said, a judgment is an opinion. Since we are all entitled to our own opinions, judgment gets thrown in the mix. Oftentimes, people confuse judgment for opinions.
So, I reflected on what I judge that should be one simple opinion, every sky is beautiful.
Now, this can be taken in so many different ways. Here’s how I see it.
Each day, the sky is different. Clouds shift. More stars appear/disappear. The sun is brighter. The moon is hardly there. The sky is pink. The sky is navy blue. The sky is golden.
You get the point. The sky will never be the same shade it was yesterday.
So,
Why judge it? Instead, admire it.
I have been practicing letting God know how beautiful his sky is each day. Try it, and I can promise you an entire rainbow of colors will be revealed to you.
One person who sees all the colors of this rainbow is my dear friend Bailey Trichell.
A few weeks ago Bailey Trichell and I got together to take pictures for my blog. I had envisioned something to match my blog page, and I knew that I could trust her in capturing pictures that simply represented me being me. She did just that.
As we took pictures at golden hour, I realized that she was the gold in my day. Complimenting me with sweet words. Listening to me so intently as I talked about everything under the sun. And visiting with me about the beauty in each of our callings. I sang to myself a familiar song by Cody Simpson that I’d later share with her,
“I’m shocked. It’s a golden thing she’s got.”
She takes a golden hour and makes you shine. She brings traces of gold each place you hear her laughter. She has a heart of gold.
Take a minute to reflect that golden things can be more than sunsets. Golden things can be people or moments in your life. You can be someone’s golden thing. Maybe, even on a rainy day, you will strike gold in more ways than one.
