Today, Catholics all around the world celebrate a woman with the highest faith, the most devoted mother, and a humble queen. Today, we celebrate the birthday of our heavenly mother, Mary.
From being given the great responsibility of carrying our savior, to watching her son get crucified, Mary stood strong in God's plan. And, when she was coronated as Queen of Heaven, her work as a mother wasn't finished. She has visited us many times, and continues to bless us with her presence. Some visits happen in chapels and churches, and others in forests and mountains. She meets her children when they need her. And, if you call upon her, she will be with you as well.
Once you pray to Mary, she begins to visit you in simple ways that seem impossibly coincidental. Some ways you will only see with the eyes that guide your heart. The sight of a rose nearly minutes after praying to her. A hug sent to you from a stranger. A song that speaks to your soul. Dreams with answers of comfort. The scent of roses. A ladybug in flight.
Recently, I found out that the ladybug is a sign of Mary's presence. European legend has it that Catholic farmers prayed to Our Lady to protect their crops. So, she sent the ladybugs to protect the crops from harmful insects. From then on, these tiny beetles were known as ladybugs because of the graces they brought about. Now, the ladybug symbolizes protection, healing, and grace.
This sign of Mary stuck with me because I search for God's little creations to feel his presence. And, since the twins, Mary has understood my loss and she's been with me through the pain... in the little ways that make a great difference.
God dwells in His creation and is everywhere indivisibly present in all His works. He is transcendent above all HIs works even while He is immanent within them. -A.W. Tozer
God is present in so many ways, and in so many things. Big and small. And, He knows when we need a mother's love. So, she visits us in the tiny ways. She brings us comfort in our struggles, peace in our days, and protection in our battles.
Let's pray.
Mary, be with me.
Stand by me as I face these days ahead.
Give me the comfort of a mother.
Bring peace to my days.
Protect me in battle.
Mary, be with me.
Amen.
In trial or difficulty I have recourse to Mother Mary, whose glance alone is enough to dissipate every fear. -St. Therese of Lisieux
