“We seek love from infancy to old age.”- Rev. Joseph T. Sullivan
Each year that February rolls around, marketers creep in every corner with ads about “love.” Love is so advertised that it’s becoming artificial. Although it’s thoughtful, love isn’t shown by the latest and greatest products on the market. Love is shown best by God.
We’ve all read or heard the very popular bible verse from 1 Corinthians 13, “Love is patient and kind.” Yet, not many people read or think past those words. In 1 John 4:8, he states that “God is love.”
God gave immaculate love to every human, so we are built to seek and give this same kind of love, after all, we are made in the image and likeness of God.
However, because of natural sin, we naturally twist the meaning of love, making it earthly. But, to all of those that have experienced true love on earth, you know its heavenly powers.
Love is:
o avoiding yelling at the kids for being loud, as they enjoy a day with their friends
o helping a stranger pay for groceries, because their card got declined
o cheering on the person who won first place, as you won second
o humbly making ends meet for your family
o saying sorry when you are wrong
o following the unknown path where God leads you
o taking a deep breath when you are frustrated instead of yelling in anger
o forgiving and forgetting
o having sympathy for those who are hurt
o rejoicing in the truth
o never giving up on one another
o never losing faith in each other
o making it through each and every storm
And so much more.
So, to those that don’t know. Love doesn’t happen one day out of the year, not even just one month out of the year. In fact, love is an everyday deal.
I believe love isn’t necessarily some choice you make each morning. Do we choose who loves us or how they love us? The answer is simple, no. However, we do have the choice for our actions of love, and that alone is the choice.
How do I know this? My faith is based on His love, a love that has no depth or date. Love is hard to find for your life, yourself, and others if you don’t believe in anything. So, I believe in God’s love. A love that was chosen for me, that I act upon.
We frequently take love and replace it with attachment. But, when we actually love, we are in an unconditional state of the heart, that unexplainable feeling. This kind of heavenly love starts with faith, then yourself, and after you can share it with others. So how do you start to love His way? Pray.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church mentions that prayer is a vital necessity that is made possible each moment for us, and because of this, “prayer and Christian life are inseparable.”
Start here:
Lord, I ask that you allow your love to flow through me every month, at every moment. Let me make each month a month of love. I am grateful for your unconditional love, and I cherish the love you allow me to witness daily. I love you.
P.S. I love you. -bri
